MY STORY

Predicting the future is incredibly difficult, and there are infinite possibilities to be explored. I have tried to set some long-term goals and work to achieve them. It works for me most of the time, but I always find the process tedious and rigid. Setting long-term goals limits the expectation of what I’m capable of and the level that I can achieve, so I intend to set short-term goals while reassessing my vision and values. I believe in having a growth mindset that has helped me learn new skills and overcome several setbacks. While I’ve devoted most of my years studying Civil Engineering, my strongest side, I will participate and engage in other areas. My field experience and educational background have given me a solid foundation to form a unique perspective. I have listed some of the projects I’ve worked on during my school years. It helped me build solid skills and offered an excellent opportunity to develop myself professionally. Likewise, I am eager to contribute my enthusiasm and skills to any individual with the same interests.
I believe that the more you know, the more you can make the right decisions, so I’ve to devote my time educating myself through school and work. I have found it easy to attend school and exceed since day one. Since I’m passionate about learning new subjects and exploring what is new, school happened to fulfill this need. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, I had the opportunity to occupy different positions. I was getting my hands dirty taught me a lot that I would never have known behind the study desks. The jobs mainly were related to monitoring the construction site and consulting. Because the work environment was not motivating and did not provide a space for self-improvement, I decided to quit my job and look for other opportunities. I decided to do more in engineering, not only as an engineer but also as a researcher. In a short period, I had a job offer from Prince Steam bin Abdulaziz University to work for the Civil Engineering Department as Teaching Assistant, where they provided me with a fully-funded scholarship to pursue my master’s and Ph.D. degrees in transportation engineering. In late 2018, I was awarded a master’s degree in science in transportation engineering from the University of Southern California.
Studying abroad was an opportunity that helped me to figure out where I’m going to devote the next few years of my life. It was a turning point in my life. Before arriving in the U.S., I had a completely different perspective on the path that I was taking. Since day one, I have had many new experiences that encouraged me to learn and offered me an excellent opportunity to expand my knowledge about transportation engineering as well as subjects in the area of urban planning. I believe studying for my master’s degree at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, which has a healthy and motivating learning environment, helped me step forward toward my future career goals. Besides this, I was able to obtain good research skills as well as analytical insights into issues related to the transportation industry.
The reason behind choosing transportation engineering as a field of study is the inefficient and stagnant transportation system that Saudi Arabia has. Also, the transportation industry, in general, has barely changed compared to the technological revolution that we are living in today. People still use the same way to travel by cars, trains, or air jets which seems less efficient every day. Knowing that transportation plays a significant role in people’s lives and its effect can expand to influence our joy, health, and productivity, a better understanding of the transportation environment will help us participate effectively in resolving the transportation issue for a more sustainable and sustainable and reliable system. Therefore, I have been mainly focused on topics related to transportation Engineering, in which I exposed myself to railroad engineering, port operation, ITS implications and traffic control and management, and travel demand modeling. Currently, I’m mainly interested in understanding travel patterns, traffic mitigation, and how to deploy new approaches to increase network efficiency. Since today’s infrastructure is fully saturated, I am interested in understanding how changing the transportation network parameters could change the behavior of users. My goal is to develop and improve the system based on the latest knowledge that extraordinary minds provide.
